The Two Giants (Bitcoin & Ethereum)

What better way to learn about the two coins that started the “cryptocurrency revolution”, than to read about them from their creators themselves?

Although geared towards a more tech-savvy bunch, white papers on Bitcoin and Ethereum are the go-to starting point for anyone new to cryptocurrencies, and will definitely provide some clarification on how the blockchain operates.

A lot of people interested in cryptocurrencies seem to congregate and share their knowledge and information on Reddit.

Here are a few threads and subreddits you can follow:

Exchange Markets

Before you jump in and make your first trade, you need to understand that there are dozens of different cryptocurrency exchanges. Depending on whether you to trade directly with other buyers and sellers, utilize a trading platform, or trade through a broker, your preferences might shift.

In all cases, there are a few things you should pay attention to before deciding which exchange market you want to join.

First off, you want to make sure an exchange has a good reputation, by combing through reviews left by other users.

To make the most out of every trade, you want to pay close attention to fees & exchange rates. Different trading platforms offer different deposit, transaction, and withdrawal fees, and the exchange rate can fluctuate drastically between markets.

If one of your main concerns is staying anonymous, make sure that the exchange does not require an ID verification to make deposit and withdrawals.

Also, don’t forget to check the available payment methods and geographical restrictions, to ensure you’re able to join the exchange in the first place, and that you can trade conveniently.

Here’s a list of exchange markets that are definitely worth checking out:

• BTCTrade
• Coinone
• Bitfinex
• Bittrex
• Bitstamp
• Kraken
• Coinbase
• Gemini
• Poloniex

A great website that might help you decide on which exchange you want to get into is CryptoCoinCharts. It provides a comprehensive exchanges list, along with information on trading pairs, 24h USD volume, and 24h BTC volume.

Bitcoin Wallets

In order to start trading, you’re going to have to purchase or create a Bitcoin wallet. They hold both public and private keys that give you the right to use the coins, allowing the holder to send, receive, and store cryptocurrency.

Cold wallets (the ones not connected to the internet) are typically used for holding coins for an extended period of time, while hot wallets provide more convenience (on the expense of security) for more frequent trades.

Here are a few recommendations:

Blockchain Wallet
• Exodus
• Jaxx
• MyCelium
• Bitcoin Armory
• MyEtherWallet
• Ledger Wallet
• Trezor
